Wines with unconventional names are pushing the boundaries in the shuffle for attention in a crowded marketplace. We have bought our share of bottles that made us laugh. Arrogant Frog, PromisQous, Purple Cowboy, and Il Bastardo were drinkable but mostly one-time buys. One cleverly named wine that we have been drinking fairly regularly is Seven Deadly Zins from Michael David Winery in Lodi California. Loaded with deep red fruit and robust spiciness, it is full bodied and has relatively long finish with a hint of vanilla. The pun in the name reflects the blending of fruit from seven Old Vine Zinfandel growers. It’s a good value for the average price of about $15.
7 Deadly Zins reminds me of Mardi Gras
