The promotional wine sales at the entryway of the store have succeeded in getting my attention and I pick up a bottle of Borgo Syrah Cortona 2010 from Italy for $14. I’ve been looking for more Syrah to try but it isn’t the typical varietal I think of from the Tuscany area. I open this bottle for a casual Saturday night at home with hubby and a pizza.
The pour is dark ruby in color. We find the fruit on the nose to be light and detect more of the alcohol. The first sip reflects blackberry and slight mineral character. We miss the “long, pure finish” as noted by another reviewer. For us, the finish is slightly fruity and quickly gone. All in all, we like it well enough in the $14 price range to try again.
